Arcle Books
Proper books for your business, kept for you. Every payment that moves through Arcle is recorded, categorised and posted to a real double-entry ledger — so your P&L, cash flow and VAT position are ready whenever you need them.
Coming as a premium feature. Books is built and in testing. It isn't switched on for general accounts yet — this page describes how it works so you know what's coming.
You don't keep the books. You answer questions.
There is no data entry. Transactions arrive on their own, and Arcle categorises what it is sure about. When it isn't sure, it asks — one tap to confirm a category, and it remembers your answer so the same customer or supplier is handled automatically next time. Your whole job is the short list of things it couldn't work out alone.
A ledger that fills itself
Payments, invoices and supplier payments flow straight in. Each entry shows who it was with, what it was for and how much — filter by period, category or type, search the lot, and fix a category inline. Nothing is entered twice.
Real double-entry accounting
Behind the ledger sits a proper general ledger: every transaction posted as a matching debit and credit. That's what makes the trial balance meaningful, and what your accountant will want to see. It is kept balanced automatically.
Reports without asking for them
Profit & loss, an income statement with months side by side, trial balance, cash flow, expense breakdown and revenue by customer — each with a chart, and each downloadable as CSV or PDF to hand to your accountant.
The Vault
Photograph a receipt or upload a bank statement and Arcle reads it. If the receipt matches a payment already in your books, it attaches to it rather than counting the expense twice. Everything you upload stays searchable.
Started before Arcle?
You don't need to have moved money through Arcle to use Books. Upload a bank statement CSV and it becomes a categorised ledger — so a business with years of history elsewhere can still get clean books here.
Bank reconciliation
Upload your bank statement and Arcle matches it against your books, showing what appears on one side and not the other — the check that catches a missed payment or a duplicate before it reaches your accounts.
VAT for Nigerian businesses
If you're in Nigeria, Arcle estimates VAT collected, VAT paid and what's payable to FIRS, with the filing deadline. It's a planning figure to keep you ahead of the 21st, not a substitute for your accountant's return. VAT reporting is Nigeria-only for now — every other report works everywhere.
Month-end close
Arcle tells you how ready the month is to close — how much is categorised, how many large expenses have a receipt, and what's still waiting on you. Once a month is closed its figures are locked, so a report you've already sent can't quietly change.
Just ask
Books answers in the same chat you use for everything else in Arcle:
Getting started
Your books are yours
Books reads your own account and nobody else's. Where a payment was to or from another Arcle member, your ledger shows their name so the entry means something — the same name you saw when you paid them. Nothing else about them is shown, and nothing about your books is visible to them. See Security.
